Leslie and Andrew got married on the Queen Mary in their Royal Wedding Chapel. I’ve done many ceremonies there, but this one was special. During the ceremony, they had their aunt perform a traditional Indian Blanket Ceremony, where they wrap a special blanket around them, she walked around them with an eagle feather and said some blessings. During the sand ceremony, the duo of a pianist and violin player started playing “Is This Love?” by Bob Marley and the groomsmen and I started to silently sing the word and got louder and louder as the song progressed. It was so awesome. We all looked at each other in disbelief that we were actually singing it during the ceremony, until we come to find out that the groom was singing it lightly as well. It was a good day. And their new coordinator there, Karen, rocks! If you want to get married on the Queen Mary, talk to Karen or Julieta. Tell them I sent you!
Fred and Denise got married at the Crowne Plaza in Redondo Beach. The coordinator there, Sheree, was awesome! We did a modified Hawaiian style ceremony where they presented their parents with some fresh flower lei’s from Hawaii. He wore a long string of maile and I wore my kukui nut and shell necklace. At the beginning of the ceremony, a plane was flying over us. So I told everyone that I hired that plane to represent the heights their marriage would reach. The flowers were done by my good friend, Debi from Oops A Daisy, and the photographers were Sal and Lana from Caught In The Moment Photography. So it was definitely the wedding A-Team there. Throughout the ceremony, across the street, a live band was playing. (They were supposed to have ended prior to the ceremony starting.) So I told everyone I had hired this band to play background music during the ceremony. However, at the end of the sand ceremony and during my final comments, the band was playing “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”. Not the best song to be played at the conclusion of a wedding ceremony, so I added it to my closing comments and requested that the two of them never lose that loving feeling. The guests chuckled. It was a great day overlooking the beach and the two of them were very happy together.
Kato and Lori met many many years ago and knew they dug each other but moved to opposite ends of the states. Years later through Classmates.com, they found each other and this time he wasn’t going to let her go. So she moved out from the East and it blossomed to the point where they decided to get married.
They booked a room at the Hotel Laguna and we went out onto the beach, down by the rocks, and did a really cool ceremony. After they were pronounced husband and wife, he picked her up and carried her down the beach. So freaking romantic!
A week before their wedding, I issued Susan and Robert their marriage license and we planned to meet on the beach in Long Beach. The day of their wedding, there was no parking anywhere within blocks. So I parked illegally at the end of a cul-de-sac, at the top of a stairway, down to the beach where their wedding was being held. Their big white stretch limo blocked me in so no one looking down the street would have seen it. I dug a heart in the sand for them to stand in, and I presided over their ceremony in my bare feet. It was a nice and romantic ceremony. Luckily my car didn’t get towed!
Kasra and Susan chose the Four Seasons to get married, and Carolyn to be their Officiant for their American ceremony.
Carolyn said, “I was so blessed to be able to share their love story and ‘The American style’ wedding ceremony with their friends and family. After the ceremony I had several guests approached me and said that the presentation suited the couples personality completely. The humor was the right touch and very romantic. The flowers were elegant!”
The one great thing about running a wedding chapel is being able to enjoy all the different personalities, listen to their stories on how they met, and see the final result with that kiss.
These couples were all so different, but have one big thing in common. When they gave that final kiss to each other, they meant it.
